Friends of the Highlanders
March 16, 2009

Greetings!

I’m David Horsman, Chairperson of the Friends of the Highlanders.

Friends of the Highlanders is a volunteer committee aimed at meeting various ongoing needs within our BMHS community.  It is comprised of parents who are dedicated to offering all BMHS students access to the most inclusive & best possible high school experience.

We can achieve these objectives by supporting BMHS administration, teachers, and students with organized community building and fundraising activities to develop additional resources for the school and the students.

This message introduces you to committee members and explains our goals. Please find below a list of committee members.  New members are welcome anytime.  Here are some exciting upcoming events to support our 2009 Gathering of the Clans.

  • Every BMHS student is a member of one of four clans—Campbells, MacLeods, MacDonalds, and Stewarts.
  • Each BMHS clan has a fundraising goal for the 2009 Gathering of the Clans.
  • Clan leaders and members have scheduled a bottle drive for April 29, 2009 at BMHS.
  • You can help by saving your recyclables, spreading the word to family and friends, and dropping off any recyclables on Wednesday, April 29 at BMHS at the front of the school from 8 AM to 7 PM.

There will also be many other clan fundraising events. This 2009 campaign culminates with a grand event—The Gathering of the Clans—from Friday, May 22 to Saturday, May 23.  The Gathering of the Clans is a twenty-four hour event, including grade eight grads from our feeder middle schools and current BMHS students.  Everyone will have fun in a variety of inclusive events from the beginning of the school day on Friday until the finale pancake breakfast on Saturday.   Events will include a midnight dance, Guitar Hero, sports in the gym, a coffee house showing-off talent within the school, and so much more. This is a terrific community-building event for all students, staff, and parents.  Please volunteer today to support the 2009 BMHS Gathering of the Clans.

Our motto is:

NO HIGHLANDER LEFT BEHIND
