Generalized Essential Skills

BBT - 9 Presentation

The Grade 9 Technology course is modular based therefore you will complete small projects called modules.  The modules when put together comprise the Technology curriculum.

You must complete all 7 modules in order to pass the course.   If you do not meet all the requirements of the module it is not complete. When you have completed the 7 modules you may be permitted to work on the optional modules for extra marks and educational value.

You will complete most of the requirements of BBT 9 with your partner. The careers module, WHMIS, and end of term test, and all module quizzes will be completed individually.  Regular daily observations on both your and your partners contributions will be noted for all projects. When you choose a partner try to find someone who you will be able to work with.  You will be working together on modules, not socializing so the person you choose does not have to be your best friend.  Under special circumstances students may be permitted to work alone but under no circumstances will there be groups larger than two persons.  THERE WILL BE NO GROUPS OF THREE PEOPLE!

Class Mark

The class mark is based on your attitude toward the course, peers and teacher, your level of participation, your level of cooperation with peers and teacher.  Positive attitudes, following instructions, being on task, showing initiative and working hard will create good class marks.

Modules

Each module has their own instructions.  Do not begin a module without reading the entire module description.  If you do not understand the instructions ask the teacher for help.  Do not ask other students, they will be busy with their own work and should not be interrupted. When you are working on a module remember that if your partner is absent from class you will have to continue wherever you left off.  You will not be permitted to sit idle until your partner returns.

End of module quizzes will all be done online.  You will be given usernames and passwords to login to take your quiz.  (Mr. Corbett's classes only; After login, click on the  "Single class login")

Store as much of your modules as possible on your space on the school server.

Modular based learning in the lab is sometimes referred to as independent study, guided learning or student centered learning.  What that means is that the teacher will not teach the entire class in the traditional teacher centered learning environment.  In the lab the teacher is there to clarify instructions and concepts, direct you where you will find answers to questions and help you when you have encountered a major problem.  The teacher usually teaches just two people at one time so be patient when you ask for help.  You may have to wait your turn.  If it is an emergency situation you do not have to wait.

It is very important that students be resourceful in the lab in order for the program to work properly.  If you are stuck on something and you are waiting for help you might as well keep trying to solve the problem until help arrives.  Nothing will be accomplished if you do not try!   This course is really what you want to make of it.  If you are interested in working hard and following instructions you will do well in this course.  You do not need an extensive background in Technology to do well in this course.

End of term Test

The end of term test will be done online for Mr. Corbett where you will be each given individual logins and passwords. Further instruction on how to complete the test online will be proided towards the end of the term.  Mr. Hughes's classes will be given a written test.

Organizing your U: Drive

Your student u: drive is where you will be storing ALL of your material to be handed into the teacher. If your directory is not organized, the teacher will not be able to find your work and give a mark for it. Organize your U: drive as follows:

  • Create a directory named BBT9
    • within that directory...
      • create 7 more directories - one for each module
        • Electronics, Simple Machines, Game Design, Save the Planet, Careers, WHMIS, Power Point.
